The aim of this study is to explain basic principles of cost effectiveness and cost utility analysis and to prepare background for researchers touching on applications in rheumatology. These methods compare costs and health outcomes of treatments. Cost effectiveness and cost utility studies in the literature increase recently, however, they rarely in Turkey. These studies can guide decision makers in the rationale use of scarce health care sources.
